Highlight Night is Ending

For 20 years, LCC has hosted a carnival style event for the Longview area on Hallowing night consisting of games, food, and lots of candy.  The purpose was to shine the love of Christ on a night of darkness by providing a safe and positive atmosphere for those in our community.  This major event has been very successful and attendance has grown almost every year.

After much prayer and discussion, the elders have made the difficult decision to no longer host this event.  Therefore, last year was our 20th and final Highlight Night.   The decision was made to cancel Highlight Night based on two very important factors:

1. Attendance has far exceeded our ability to host the event safely and responsibly.

Since 2008, the event grew from 1,970 to 2,843 total people in attendance. A conservative estimate could make the 2011 attendance nearing 3,300 people. To host the event safely, we would need to “scale down” attendance significantly and could result in frustrated and disappointed guests. Instead of seeing it continue to increase, we would have to decrease the size of the event to make it safe.

Certainly, we see the good in HLN with the service we provide to the community by giving them a fun and safe place to come. The challenge created by the huge attendance is that safety is in question and the potential for even dangerous situations has grown to the point of having to make the decision.

2. We now have the opportunity to move from a GOOD thing to an even BETTER service and outreach opportunity.

We envision in the next 6 - 9 months having an all-church service event that will huddle our church and friends and move into various areas of the community for a day of service. This can be accomplished by partnering with existing ministries, schools, churches, etc. The formation of a team and details on this event are forthcoming. Our prayer is that God will use our past 20 years of experience in hosting an event that has become bigger than this campus, and unleash us beyond the walls of the building to go into our community with passion and purpose to hold up the Light of Jesus Christ.
