LIHN: Hearts And Hands Needed!

by: Troy Bayne | February 23, 2009

For the past few years, LCC has been blessed to serve in a ministry called the Longview Interfaith Hospitality Network, or LIHN for short.  This unique program is made up of churches throughout Longview, providing a hosting site for a week at a time for families who find themselves in circumstances leaving them without a home to live in.  The LIHN service provides training, shelter, transportation, and other tools to equip families, helping them start over again in life with the goal of self sustanining employment and housing to provide for their family.  LCC is able to participate by hosting the LIHN families once every eleven weeks or so.

During the last week, I (Julie Rucker) was asked to become the new LIHN Coordinator for LCC.  This posiition is one that is replaced every two years.  Raye Kennedy has diligently given of herself and serving in this capacity and is now stepping down.  After much prayer and conversation with Ed, my spouse, I know that God it at work in our lives and has asked me to join Him in this ministry.  I have been active in LIHN since its onset and truly understand the blessing that it gives to everyone who gives of themselves to touch the lives of the families in the program.

LCC will host the week of March 29 - Arp. 5.  There will be a training on Sunday, March 29th, during Sunday School for those of you who have not been through the training; it is a requirement before you can become involved in this ministry.  This hour long session will equip you with the information you need to have in order to serve these wonderful people.  Please mark your calendars for these important dates.  If you have not experienced the blessings and rewards of being a participant in this ministry, please be in prayer about where God wants you to join Him --  you will be blessed!!
